I worked on 3 recipes, peanut butter, molasses, and bacon and cheddar for months until I finally found the right ones. I had the lab in OKC do the testing, and I filled out all of the paperwork and jumped through all of the hoops to be a MIO company. I told myself if I didn't run into many obstacles it was the right thing to do. I prayed about it a lot, I didn't want to risk our family's financial well being if that was not what God wanted me to do. But he lead me down every pathway by the hand. Everyone I was in contact with was so nice and encouraging to me it made me feel like I was on the right path.
We took our treats and set up at the Tulsa State Fair in September and October 2011 as a trial run to see how we would do. We were in the Made In Oklahoma part of the building and met some wonderful people I am looking forward to seeing again next year and some that I am still in touch with now. We were a hit! We sold out 4 times! I had a friend baking for me and my husband was driving down everyday after work to deliver them to me. He really was a trooper through that 10 days. Thank you Babe.
This is about my life choice to quit teaching and opening a business, am I crazy? Only time will tell!

The beginning.
Let me start out by saying, I loved teaching and I loved each and every one of my kids I had every year and they will all have a special place in my heart as long as I live. But one has to try and be happy in this one and only life God gave me so...I quit teaching. I deserved to be treated better than I was. I...as well as everyone, deserves to be happy and the education system we have had for the last 10 years is not one I want to be a part of. There is no happiness there, not for teachers and students alike. It is very sad.
The school year of 2010-2011 was to be my last year. I planned all year to start a business. A business dedicated to something I loved, my dog. I had recently rescued a Shih-tzu, I named him Ziggy. And although I thought I was doing the rescuing it was Ziggy that actually was. I needed him as much if not more than he needed me.
He was 9 months old and kept in a crate all of his life in a puppy mill. His little paws had never even touched the grass. He was 5 pounds and his hair was so matted and dirty you couldn't even see what his pretty face looked like. It was pathetic, how could someone treat an animal like that?
I had my work cut out for me, he was in terrible shape. He was 5 pounds underweight and scared to death of everything except me. I contacted our local veterinarian and asked what I could do to help him, she suggested that I make his food for him and feed him small amounts several times a day. So to the Internet I went, searching for recipes for dogs. In a few weeks he looked so much better.
But we were starting to potty train him and I needed treats for rewards. I had been so careful about what I fed him I needed this to continue with the treats. I read label after label and couldn't find anything I wanted to give him, they were all loaded with preservatives, colors, and dyes. And one day it hit me, why not make his treats for him as well! So I went out and bought a small bone cookie cutter and started baking!
